In many ways UAE and yes, even the region is a sophisticated insurance market, but in many ways, there is scope for significant improvements to catch up and hopefully even surpass the West.
That is CMECIC’s objective – to do our share in growing and improving the Risk Management environment in this region.
During my time here in the GCC based in Dubai I have seen incompetancies which are often due to lack of employee training, lack of employee morale caused by corporate leaders’ antiquated definitions of management which could include mistreatment, and dictatorial attitudes towards different stakeholders. I have seen top management reticence in making necessary investments which in the end sacrifices long term prosperity for short term gains – such as investment in training, new product expansion, IT advancements etc.
Keeping such observations in mind, CMECIC is committed to doing all that is necessary in becoming a positive contributing corporate citizen of the United Arab Emirates.

David Avasthi
Managing Director, and Chief Underwriting Officer
David holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science and an MBA in Investment and International Finance.
He began his career in M&A structuring with a leading Wall Street firm before moving into insurance. Over the past several decades, David has led new product development and underwriting for Credit, Political Risk, E&O, and Worker Protection programs at AIG, Cigna, Unistrat, and Dubai Insurance, based out of New York, Miami, Paris, Brussels and Dubai.
He was also a member of Munich Re’s Innovative Business Solutions Team in Princeton and Munich, underwriting specialty lines. David has further experience as an insurance and reinsurance intermediary and consultant with MDB Re in Brussels, Aon and SterlingRisk in New York.
In the UAE, David has been instrumental in the design and implementation of the UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization’s Worker Protection Program, as well as National Unemployment Scheme covering all workers in the UAE and across major Free Zones.
Today, David continues to advise government entities across the region on national programs spanning insurance, commerce, environment, and social policy, and assisting Insurers in widening their product offerings by advising on underwriting terms and conditions to capture new markets.
Afsaneh Azadeh

Afsaneh Azadeh is a global executive with 21 years of leadership experience across aviation, hospitality, and insurance.
As Co-Founder & CEO of CME Capital Insurance Consultancies, she leads a firm with offices in New York and Dubai focused on Credit Insurance, risk advisory, and helping businesses protect and grow value.
She received her degree in Business from National University, Los Angeles, CA. Afsaneh was the first woman to be appointed ‘Accountable Manager’ by the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority. She led operations for HL cargo airline with routes across the Middle East and CIS in a variety of Industries.
Over her career, she has led company turnarounds in the hotel industry, and developed sourcing and distribution networks across the Middle East, CIS, and South Asia in a variety of industries.
Prior to CME Capital, she served as Vice President of Marketing at Aviation Leasing Group in Kansas City, USA and held senior roles at Shollar Bottling Company.
At CME Capital Group, she oversees Administration, Finance, and Human Resources.
